One of the most recognized artifacts from the American Civil War, is Rhode Islands own Gettysburg Gun. The Gun was disabled under unusual circumstances on the 3rd day of the battle of Gettysburg, which during loading, left a cannon ball wedged in its muzzle.  In 1988 Battery B, with the help of the Rhode Island National Guard, was afforded a rare opportunity. The gun was for the first time since that historical day, returned to the Gettysburg Battlefield National Park. The Battery became the custodians of the guns history. The Gun upon its return made a tour of the state, returning to the State house where it resides today.
